What Talk2Otto does

Talk2Otto is a companion to OTTO, an automotive assistant at Talk2Otto.com. The app connects over Bluetooth to a small OBD-II dongle you plug into your vehicle, reads the standard diagnostic codes and sensor data, and sends them to OTTO so OTTO can help you figure out what is wrong and how to fix it.

Common questions

I don't have the OBD-II dongle yet. Can I still try it?

Yes. Open the app and tap RUN A DEMO. It runs a simulated vehicle scan (real diagnostic codes and live sensor readings) with no hardware attached, so you can see exactly how the app works.

How do I talk to OTTO?

Tap TALK TO OTTO in the app, or go to Talk2Otto.com in any browser. You can chat as a guest or create a free account.

How do I send my vehicle's scan to OTTO?

Connect the dongle (or run the demo) so the app has data, ask OTTO for a four-digit code on the website, type that code into the app, and tap send. OTTO then has your codes and readings and can discuss them with you.

What dongle do I need?

Any standard Bluetooth OBD-II (ELM327-style) adapter, the kind sold for roughly $20–$50. It plugs into the diagnostic port under your dashboard.

What information does the app collect?

Only standard vehicle diagnostic data, and only when you choose to send it. No account, name, location, camera, or contacts. See our Privacy Policy for the full details.

The app isn't connecting to my dongle.

Make sure Bluetooth is on, the dongle is plugged in firmly and the key is in the ON position, and that no other app (like a scan-tool app) is already connected to the dongle. Still stuck? Email or text us above and we will walk you through it.
